It was great to kick off the fall season and raise a glass with many of you at the Wine Committee Dinner earlier this month at Talia in Port Chester. Hopefully, you were just as excited as I was to meet this year’s potential candidates and share a wonderful evening together.
As mentioned earlier, we have shifted the dates for our events this fall to avoid the usual crunch immediately after the holidays. Our next event is our beloved La Paulée de Meursault.
This year, we will be visiting a new venue: the newly renovated La Plage in Westport, located at the Longshore Club on Compo Beach. We will be dining on their veranda overlooking Long Island Sound.
Chef Frederick Kieffer of La Plage is classically trained at the renowned L’École Supérieure de Cuisine Française in Paris. Following his graduation, a series of apprenticeships took him through the kitchens of such celebrated restaurants as Taillevent, Le Chiberta with Guy Savoy, and the Lutetia Hotel. Before joining La Plage, Chef Kieffer worked at New York City’s Waters Edge and Gaia in Greenwich, and was the opening chef of the celebrity-owned Man Ray restaurant in Lake Worth, Florida.
Being located just steps from Long Island Sound, La Plage has a strong focus on les fruits de mer. Our Dinner Committee is working closely with Chef Kieffer to develop a menu designed to complement the Burgundy we will be sharing.
As in previous years, the Paulée is an event where the Confrérie provides the reception wines, while each member and guest brings their own bottle of Meursault and a red Burgundy of their choice. It is a wonderful opportunity to share our wines, our passion, and the convivial spirit of Burgundy with fellow Chevaliers and guests.
